  • Google is integrating Gemini, its Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant, more deeply into Pixel phones, the Pixel Watch, and its advertising and analytics tools. This matters if you use Google hardware, evaluate campaigns, or compare Gemini with ChatGPT and Claude. The August 2026 announcements reveal a consistent strategy: Google wants AI to handle everyday tasks inside familiar products, not only in a separate chatbot window.

Gemini becomes part of the device

At its Made by Google 2026 event, Google introduced the Pixel 11 series, Pixel Watch 5, and Pixel Tag. The common thread, however, was the range of new Gemini features for Pixel devices. They connect voice, cameras, and personal information so that you do not have to open a separate chat interface before every task.

A new voice-input feature called Rambler is designed to understand long sentences, filler words, and loosely structured speech. That could help when you dictate a note or message while moving and do not sound as if you are recording an official statement. Google has not provided details about its reliability across different accents or languages.

Circle to Search, a search feature for visible screen content and objects, is also moving closer to the camera. You can use it to identify an object in the distance, translate text, or ask about your surroundings without leaving the camera view. This removes several steps but also makes the camera a more important source of input for Gemini.

The Pixel Watch 5 follows the same software-first approach. According to an early look at Google’s new watch, Gemini can complete simple offline tasks such as starting a timer or launching an app. In the demonstrated test, however, offline responses were noticeably slower.

The watch is also supposed to suggest relevant actions proactively. If you receive a message asking when you are available, it may offer to check Google Calendar. An icon on the watch face can display live information about timers, Uber arrival times, or workouts. These suggestions reduce menu navigation, although they may become distracting when Gemini misunderstands the context.

    Accessibility gains a practical use

The most significant addition is not another summary or image generator but translation from sign language into text. Google’s sign-language-to-text model (SL2T), a system that converts signed communication into written language, is launching in Gboard and Live Transcribe on the Pixel 11. It initially supports American Sign Language (ASL) and translates it into English.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing users can sign in front of the camera to search the web, draft messages or documents, and give Gemini tasks. In Live Transcribe, which converts conversations into text, they can sign a response instead of typing it. According to Google DeepMind’s account of its sign-language AI, testers found signing in ASL faster and more natural than typing in English; this is a provider claim and has not been independently verified in the supplied sources.

Google points to more than 200 sign languages and an estimated 70 million Deaf and hard-of-hearing people who use them. The company says additional devices and languages will follow but gives no specific schedule. That makes the initial value limited in Switzerland: ASL-to-English does not cover the country’s linguistic variety or its local sign languages, and the sources provide no Swiss availability details.

The feature also illustrates why this type of translation is difficult. Sign languages are independent languages, not spoken languages displayed through hand movements. A camera must interpret motion and other visual signals in context, so an error during a real conversation can matter more than a typo in an ordinary message.

Ads and Analytics receive analysis assistance

Gemini is moving into Google’s work tools as well as its devices. Ask Advisor is an agentic feature, meaning an AI assistant that works through multi-step analysis tasks using existing marketing data. It is intended for Google Ads, Google Analytics, Merchant Center, and the Google Marketing Platform.

According to the report on the new analytics features, the additions include homepage insights, visual reports, and campaign comparisons. AI Overviews in Google Analytics are supposed to highlight what has changed since your previous login. Examples include a sudden decline in website traffic or a strong increase in sales.

You will also be able to receive these updates on a schedule through smartphone or email notifications. This could simplify daily monitoring for small teams because they will not need to search several views before finding an unusual development. An automatically highlighted change does not necessarily explain its cause, so any campaign decision still needs to be checked against the underlying data.

The sources do not specify prices for these features or detailed rollout conditions. They also provide no further information about the handling of sensitive campaign, customer, or analytics data. Availability, contractual terms, and privacy implications therefore remain unresolved for organizations in Switzerland.

Pros and Cons of the Gemini integration

    Pros:

    • Fewer switches – Camera, voice, calendar, and analytics features are available where the relevant task begins.
    • Basic offline use – The Pixel Watch 5 can complete simple commands without a connection, although it may respond more slowly.
    • Better accessibility – ASL-to-text translation gives Deaf and hard-of-hearing users an additional input method.
    • Faster orientation – Ads and Analytics can directly surface unusual changes and campaign comparisons.

    Cons:

    • Limited language coverage – The sign-language feature starts exclusively with ASL translated into English.
    • Unverified reliability – Many claims about quality and usefulness come from Google and lack independent confirmation.
    • Broader data access – Camera, screen, calendar, and marketing inputs add useful context while leaving privacy questions unanswered.
    • Higher device prices – The Pixel 11 and Pixel Watch 5 cost more even though many of their major changes are software-based.

The Pixel 11 starts at $899 in the United States, $100 more than the Pixel 10, although the base storage increases to 256 gigabytes. The Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099. The Pixel Watch 5 costs $399, representing a $50 increase over its predecessor. The sources do not list Swiss prices or release dates.

Reach and market position tell different stories

Google says Gemini has reached one billion monthly active users. This measurement counts people who open the Gemini app or web interface, enter a prompt, or access Gemini Live at least once during a month. Encounters with Gemini inside Gmail, Drive, Google Search, or other services are not included in that figure.

Based on usage figures released by Google, Gemini reached the milestone faster than any previous Google product. Voice input is used by 63 percent of active users. Among Gemini Live users, 20 percent share a camera feed or screen, while 38 percent of school-related requests include an attachment. Users also reportedly generate 150 million images per day, all marked with Google’s SynthID watermark.

That reach does not automatically mean Gemini leads every type of AI use. An analysis comparing Gemini with ChatGPT and Claude says Gemini’s share of AI-generated texts submitted to Pangram dropped from 12 percent to 1.9 percent in July 2026. OpenAI remained above 50 percent in every measured month, while Anthropic increased from 4.3 to 14.9 percent, primarily in technical and scientific work.

Similarweb also recorded a slight decline in Gemini’s website share, from 27 to 26.8 percent, compared with 9.4 percent a year earlier. These measurements have significant biases: Pangram mainly captures typical text work, OpenRouter is used heavily for open-weight models, and Similarweb excludes mobile app usage. The apparent contradiction can therefore be partly reconciled: Gemini may attract one billion occasional or mobile users while losing share in specific text-based workflows.

    What this means for you

For beginners: Start with one clearly defined function whose result you can verify immediately. You might use Circle to Search to identify an object, start a timer from the watch, or compare an Analytics traffic alert with an existing report. This lets you judge the practical benefit without immediately giving Gemini every available piece of context.

For advanced users: You can gain more value by connecting AI suggestions with existing review processes. In Ads and Analytics, use automatically highlighted changes as a starting point, then verify the relevant segments, date ranges, and campaign comparisons. With Gemini Live, decide deliberately when camera or screen sharing is necessary because those features provide additional context by transmitting additional data.

Google’s advantage is the breadth of its devices and services: Gemini can appear where you already work, search, and communicate. The sign-language feature demonstrates a clear social benefit, but its initial language coverage is narrow. Reliability, privacy, Swiss availability, and whether broad distribution can translate into deeper usage against ChatGPT and Claude remain the main unresolved issues.
